Candles by Candlelight

A wonderful performance last night by our choir and instrumentalists!Thank you to all parents who came, sang along, had mince pies, coffee and tea the odd tipple of mulled wine. It was a perfect way to get together and celebrate Christmas. Special thanks to Mrs F and Miss S for the hours of after school and lunchtime rehearsals'.

Party Time!

Co-operation, team work, trust, wonder, endeavour and lots of love were evident at our Christmas parties yesterday. How fantastic are these children!

St George's Crypt

Parents, friends, children and staff of Lady Elizabeth Hastings have been collecting during the Advent season for St George's Crypt. It was great to meet Arja Copperwheat yesterday to hear how all your wonderful gifts will be used to help homeless people in Leeds. Arja spoke about the little things we do can make a big difference and when one person acts, others will follow. Over the festive period, we will remember the story of the starfish and the man who walked along the beach and how our actions have made others happy. Many thanks to Mrs D and the School Council for coming up with the idea and an extra special 'shout out' to Miss C in making it happen!

Bibles

On Thursday our Reception children and new starters received a copy of their very own Bible.

Well done to all the children in Ledston and Wheler. Their production of 'The Christmas Jigsaw' was amazing. Great singing, superb acting and a joy to watch. A big thank you to everyone who supported this performance!

Christmas Fair

There was a fantastic turnout for our Christmas Fair on Friday evening and we had so much fun! The 'enterprise' products went down a treat and the children enjoyed standing stall with their parents and selling their fudge, decorated boxes, wreathes, tree decorations and Christmas cakes. Thank you to all our wonderful parents for their generous donations to the tombolas and raffle. We will let you know in true 'Apprentice' style fashion, the total amount raised and the team who came up with the most profitable business idea. No one will get fired though!

We have brilliant scientists in The Ark!

Children in The Ark have been applying their maths skills in Science in a variety of ways this week......

Using metre rulers, tape measures and 30cm rulers the Year 2's  compared the length of their arm span with their height, their face length to their foot length and their forearm length to their foot length.

The Y1's used their hand span to measure their height and the length of various body parts. They are hoping to find some similarities.

Meanwhile in Ledston Class,  Y1 children have been reading scales on thermometers in degrees Celsius to find out which materials are the best insulators.

It was tricky to count in tens, fives and ones when reading the thermometer......

The children plotted the temperatures on their graphs......

They talked about the differences in temperatures and from the results of their experiment, agreed on the material that was the most effective insulator.
