Happy Mother's Day

Here's a photo from earlier on in the week when the children were rehearsing for their Mother's Day Assembly

We hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the sunshine.
Happy Mother's Day!

Super Science in Wheler

We like to think our children are resilient learners! Here are a few photos of the children in Year 1 and Year 2 working out a problem to do with Food Chains.

What does the arrow mean?

We know that a fox is a carnivore and would eat a chick, but what is the fox eaten by? It depends where it's habitat is.

And are we sure yet about what is meant by producer, consumer,
predator and prey?

I think I've got this right!

Dance in a Day

Children from Year 4 and Year 5 worked with Dance Leaders from Brigshaw High School to create, rehearse and perform a dance in a day! The end result was brilliant and so professional after hours of practising in front
 of the mirror.

Thank you to the Dance leaders from Brigshaw and to Mr Parkinson and his team for making the whole day possible.

Hilary Robinson visit on World Book Day

Staff, parents and children enjoyed Hilary Robinson's visit to Lady Elizabeth Hastings today. Our theme for the day was 'Mixed Up Fairy Tales' (taken from the title of one of Hilary's books).

We started the day with a whole school assembly at 8.50 a.m. to which parents were invited. Hilary shared a presentation of well-known traditional Fairy Tales.....there were a few not so well known too!

Red Riding Hood was a popular choice for the girls and we had a number of dashing woodcutters, a few wolves, bears and a wonderful Prince Charming!

Hilary visited each class in turn and the children had fun imagining how the story would unfold if , for example, the story title was Cinderella and the Beanstalk. Hilary's Top Tip that she always gives aspiring writers is " Think of the ending first" Great advice!

Teachers will be helping children to write their own mixed -up Fairy Tales in the next few days. We look forward to reading their completed stories.

Typical Tuesday!

My camera and I went for a walk around school today to record the different kinds of learning that take place on a typical Tuesday.

Nicola, from Leeds Art Gallery, came in to share some stunning pieces of art and we discussed how they made us feel. We are looking forward to the re-opening of the gallery and can't wait to see the rediscovered and carefully refurbished Victorian roof in the autumn.

Mr G from Artforms came in for his weekly visit and taught our Year 3's and 4's in Lotherton Class how to play the ukulele.

After school, Mrs F worked with our advanced guitar players....

Whilst our KS 2 children practised their badminton skills with Mr S......

Our Digital leaders worked with Mr R and Mr T on their computing skills..

and children in Y6 were hard at work revising for their Y6 SATs tests helped by Miss S, Miss M and a School Direct student from Brigshaw High School.
